31 Days to a better home

I am starting this blog to keep me accountable. I often focus on what I still need to do and I don't appreciate enough where I have come.

There are times in our lives we come to crossroads. Now is such a time in my life. I'm seeing clearly the things I want to change. One of these is where I'm living. I would like to live in a bigger house. We have four growing kids and I'm needing the extra space. But to be able to move we need to be able to rent this house. At the moment this seems like a mountain for me. Renting the house means doing all those little jobs we've been putting off getting done, it means decluttering, selling what we don't need, emptying the attic!!! I'm finding it all overwhelming. But I believe that I will get there one step at a time. What an encouragement it will be to be able to look back at all the work I got done!!

I'm starting with 31 days, psychologically it helps to know there is a deadline.

So here it goes, this is what I did on my first day of my "31 days to a better home":

- I cleaned out the oven. To do this I soaked every removable part of the oven in baking soda and I poured baking soda and vinegar in the oven itself. It worked, after 30 minutes, I was able to remove most of the grease! Yay...

-I removed the cushion covers from the sofa and washed them. I scrubbed the sofa itself with the Astonish stain soap. It worked.

- I filled all the holes that were left after my husband removed all the nails and screws...I had been waiting for him to do it but alas, it doesn't seem to be on top of his priority list. But it feels good to having done it. There's something very satisfying to doing something for the first time. It turned out to be very easy as well. I just had to mix 2 and 1/2 parts filler to one part water and fill the holes! Seriously there wasn't much to it! I'm so proud of myself.

I'm looking forward to writing about the work I'm getting done tomorrow!
